i got my first deer with a bow two years ago at 30 yards shooting fangers and no sights i had practiced the shots at every angle and been shooting the bow since i was 12 .it took 14 years later for me to get my first deer. the week before i took the little buck i shoot at two other deer a doe first then a buck. the doe was 15 yards a way and all i got was air after spooking her and the other deer off with the bad shot i climb down and started to go home about 600 yards a way across the field i happen to see a buck chaseing does so i walked across the plowed field slowly and oddly he stayed there i got a shot at him at 50 yards a shot i have done ever day for the last 7 years at home and i missed agian. talk about a bad day. the point to it all is you can practice all you want and still screw it up. but the proven method i have found is make a list of actions to follow and say them to you self as you take the shot and every bit of the pratice will come thro i havent missed since i have done this. it helps you keep your cool when the shot is there and your nerves want take over

Great article, One of my favorite Uncles was an avid bow hunter, when I was a young lad, he was able to kill a black bear on a Montana bear hunt with a long bow! I think of him now and then and remember him telling us about that great adventure!
Something worth mentioning is the necessity of a good sharp hunting knife as a main object of hunting gear.

i disagree with the scent part because i have been bow hunting since i was 6 and started hunting when i was 4 and me and my dad never use a scent blocker and we get deer all the time. all we do is put corn and apples out and they come in every time we sit in the stand. but i agree with everything else. bow hunting is really exciting and i think more people should try it. once you start there is no stoping.

This is a great post. I love it when people touch on the finer points of bow hunting. It can be a very rewarding experience for anyone. Great job, and keep em coming.

Bow hunting is definitely a rush. I've been rifle hunting for years. In the last couple of years, I've taken up bow hunting. When my 9 year old son is not hunting with me, I'm sitting in my tri-pod. I made my first kill last season bagging a hog. Everything went according to plan and bagged my first animal. Looking forward to bow season opening up.

Bow hunting can be a good thing and exiting, I've been used to rifles ever since I started hunting with my dad but with bow hunting it is definitely worth a try.

Thanks for sharing this insightful article.
